Our son Fletcher's room is on the cover! Thanks in large part to Keith Kustard and Tomi Ungerer, and of course photographer Seth Smoot and everyone at Anthology.

Finnish Bunkbed, with car

Designed by Pirkko Stenroos and manufactured by Muurame.
"The drawers slide out from under the bed on wheels and can quickly be converted into a toybox car equipped even with a steering wheel. It is no surprise that since this form rationally answers the demands of a growing family, it has become one of the most popular furniture forms in Finland."
-from Finnish Design: Facts and Fancy by Donald J. Wilcox (1973)

Unfortunately I don't think Muurame makes the car conversion drawer anymore, but Pirkko Stenroos' designs are alive and well and make us want to redesign our son's room, down to the Invicta-striped, Noddy-esque wardobe.

Santa Monica Airlines, 1985

My old Santa Monica Airlines skateboard from 1985, designed by Natas Kaupas with a little help from Frank Frazetta (more here). Sold last year on ebay in an even exchange to buy Linda's new Linus bicycle.

I would've liked to have saved it for our son, but it's a little more satisfying trading it for family bike trips than waiting 10 years to see if it's cool enough (It would be- sorry Fletcher). He did get one ride in, though.

Pattern Pending

Super cool razzle dazzle pattern block toy designed by Josef Albers' student and biographer Fred Horowitz for Parker Brothers, 1971.

These would be pretty wild in color, too.

Helmut Newton in the Springtime

Speaking of boobs, here are some favorite spreads from Helmut Newton's books White Women, Big Nudes, World Without Men, and Pages from the Glossies.
This could go on and on, though, of course.
And if you're in Paris before June 17th, it does, as Le Grand Palais has exhibited giant retrospective of Newton's work.

More info about the retrospective here, and at the luxuriously classy Pacific-Standard, who have a little film preview as well.
