Vintage Nike Poster and St. Elmo's Fire.

I'm not sure what the story is behind the Nike photo, but I think it may be a still from a filmed commercial. I kind of remember it, and there was something about the pose of the guy in the white tank top mimicking a Roman sculpture, maybe. (If anybody knows...)

Being that I had to sit through St. Elmo's fire to get that still, I might as well post Emilio Estevez & Andrew McCarthy's Godardian apartment, which is a little more up our alley...

This is a painting I did as an idea for the cover of our book Tossed & Found, wherein die-cut photos of some of the projects would be floating in front of it in a clear plastic cover, referencing the book Italy: The New Domestic Landscape and of course the Death Star trash compactor #3263827.

It would've been awesome, but unfortunately it turned out to be too expensive to produce and (likely) far too obscure to understand.

If I weren't going to paint our front door in the Push Pin graphic style of 1984, I would definitely use these great old Porsche colors, and put our number inside the white circle. 

Also, how does one turn that headlamp design into pendant lamps which turn on as smoothly as McQueen's do during the dusky hours of Le Mans.?

Sometimes you find more design inspiration in cars, than anywhere else.

C'etait un Rendezvous

Rendez-vous (Claude Lelouch 1976)

Early one August morning in 1976 the French director Claude Lelouch mounted a camera to the front of his Ferrari and filmed his breakneck drive through the streets of Paris, from Porte Dauphine to Sacre Coeur. After "C'etait un Rendezvous" was shown publicly Lelouch was arrested and the car confiscated.

Not long after it was released our local library had a copy, and my brother and I used to get our dad to rent it constantly, every chance we got. Back then renting movies was a little more complicated, as the movie was an actual big can of film, and my dad would have to lug out the movie projector and thread the film, while we'd set up the giant silver screen on its rickety aluminum tripod. But when the lights went out and the movie started rolling, nothing beat sitting on the carpet staring up at the screen with a permanent smile for 9 minutes, the smell of dusty electricity, the smooth clacking of the projector, and the loud Ferrari engine blaring through the steel speakers.
